Droopy Breasts

The most common cause for droopy breasts after a breast implant surgery is not wearing a supportive bra. Gravity exerts a regular downward force on all structures in our body and the breasts are the most affected if you calculate the exact volume of tissue that actually droops down. To counteract the force of gravity, a supportive bra is extremely important even if you don’t have any breast implants. We find that most women who come to our office wear bras to only cup their breasts or to cover their nipples. A supportive bra does not have to be thick or padded. Nor does it have to have an under-wire. To support your breasts, a great bra only has to lift your breasts upward and keep them there through the day. Your bra does not have to be padded with an under-wire but it can be made of fine lace as long as it is well fitted to your chest and places upward pressure on your breast implants.

Once your breasts become droopy with their implants, a breast lift becomes necessary. You can choose to stay the same size or take this surgical opportunity to fine-tune the breasts to your ideal size during the breast lift. Be prepared for more scarring as breast lifts involve three types of scars. The mildest surgery to lift your breast will leave a circumferential scar around the areolas (dark skin around the nipples). A vertical or minimal scar breast lift will have a scar around your areola and another from the areola to under the breast like a lollipop. The most traditional breast lift which is still being performed regularly by all surgeons is a standard breast lift wick leads to an anchor scar. Most women do not mind the scar on their breasts as we spend much effort to give you the finest scars possible. But you will have to weigh the benefits of the breast lift against the scar if you are contemplating a correction of your droopy breasts. If your drooping is mild, you may wish to treat it conservatively. If your drooping is moderate to severe, the subjective benefits of a breast lift will hopefully far outweigh the risks. Only in such cases is a mastopexy or beast lift a worthwhile procedure.
