Breast Implants

i     Around the nipple (peri-areolar)
Most surgeons these days are placing their implants into the breasts thorough small incisions around the areola (dark skin around the nipple). The resulting scar is difficult to see because it blends into the transition between the dark areola and the regular color of the skin on the breast. The advantage to this approach is the ability to remove, replace and revise the implants through the same scar anytime down the line. The disadvantage is the possibility of a visible scar particularly in women who genetically do not form good scars, or in women who want to show-off their breasts without any visible signs of surgery. So if you do not mind a minimal scar on your breast, or if you do not anticipate going topless in the South of France or another exotic beach, you should consider having your implants placed through around the nipple.

  1. The underarm (axilla)
The underarm is a great approach for placing the implants into the breasts because the scars are well hidden. With no scars on the breasts, it can be difficult to guess women have had breast implants if the correct size implant is also chosen. The scar in typically appears like another crease or fold at the underarm. The disadvantage to this technique is the possible need for another incision on the breasts sometime in the future if it ever becomes necessary to perform a complicated implant removal and replacement procedure. Though we use state of the art equipment and instruments, complicated implant revision procedures are still impossible through the underarms. So if having not having a scar on your breast is very important to you, or you want to show-off your breasts without any evidence or surgery, you should consider the underarm approach.

  2. Below the breast
The easiest way to place the implants into the breasts is definitely an incision below the breast. Easiest is not necessarily the best though. This technique results in a scar which is not easily hidden on the breast. We care about our results and your satisfaction. We can not recommend this technique to most women unless they already have had the scar from a prior implant surgery, or there are other issues which require an otherwise difficult to hide scar.

  3. The belly button
In an age when belly button rings, tattoos round the belly button and thin fit waists, most women are more likely to show-off their belly buttons with a beautiful bathing suit or top than their bear breasts. Though a seemingly attractive technique, the belly button approach for placing the breast implant is unsafe and not practiced by most plastic surgeons. If there are any problems during surgery, it would be very difficult to control the problem through the belly button as it is so far away from the area of surgery. The scar at the bellybutton is much more.
